If you have a goal, don’t make it public

You think that you tell people what you want to do, which will increase your commitment to them.

You are wrong. Making a public commitment to your goals reduces motivation.

One possible explanation is that the very act of showing off our goal to others gives us some sense that we’ve taken the first step towards reaching it.
