CNN报道了一种5万美元的机器可以按照你的需求打印书，它最多可以打印550页的书，并且可在7分钟内装订起来。这种机器将在2007年一些选定的美国图书馆内开始使用。机器由On Demand Books公司设计，它现在可提供250万本书，大约100万是英文版还有其它不受版权保护的，比如你可打印一本《战争与和平》。书主要来源自 Google和the Open Content Alliance（开放内容联盟），当然还有其它的来源。这项技术在6年前就完成开发，但这是第一次向公众提供开放式服务。
