  • ASL - Age / Sex / Location [7]
  • ASAP - As Soon As Possible[8][9]
  • ATM - At The Moment [5]

  • B2B - Business to Business [5]
  • BBIAB - Be Back In a Bit [10]
  • BBL/S - Be Back Later/Shortly/Soon [11]
  • BCNU - Be Seein' You [5]
  • Beature - a bug in a program which turns out to be a useful feature [12]
  • Blog - also known as web blog or an online journal
  • BOFH - Bastard Operator From Hell [13]
  • Bot - any type of automated software in chatrooms and Web-cataloging software [14]
  • BRB - Be Right Back [5]
  • BSOD - Blue Screen of Death [5]
  • BTDT - Been There Done That [11]
  • BTW - By The Way [14]
  • Bump - Increment. (For example, C's ++ operator.)[5], also to raise the profile of a thread or post (see Bump).

C

  • Cartooney (adj/noun) - an unfounded legal threat often involving a non-existent lawyer and used in context of spammers threatening the anti-spam community. See also Barratry.
  • Crawl - To retrieve a webpage along with the hyperlinks that reference it[14]
  • CU - See You (later) [5]
  • CYA - See Ya(you) OR Cover Your Ass [15]
  • Cyber (prefix) - A term used to connect the subsequent word loosely to the world of computers or the Internet or sex over a computer[14]
  • Cyberspace - virtual reality, the Internet, the World Wide Web, and other kinds of computer systems. Science fiction author William Gibson coined the term in his novel Neuromancer. Gibson used the word to describe a virtual world of computer networks that his cyberpunk heroes 'jacked into' [14]
  • Cybersex - to have sex over the computer

  • EASOCS(AD) - Eat a Stick of Cat Shit (and die)

  • FAQ - Frequently Asked Question
  • FFS - For Fuck's Sake [16]
  • EF EF ES - For Fuck's sake
  • Flamer - Someone who makes inflammatory, abusive or directly offensive comments. Similar to, but not quite the same as an Internet troll[5]
  • FOAD - Fuck Off And Die [5]
  • FOAF - Friend Of A Friend [5]
  • FTW - For The Win/World[16], or Fuck The World
  • FTL - For The Lose[16]
  • FUBAR - Fucked Up Beyond All Recognition/Repair (from military slang; pronounced "foo-bar") [5]
  • F U - Fuck You [5]
  • FUD - "Fear, uncertainty and doubt" (the purposeful spread of misinformation) [5]
  • FYI - For Your Information [5]

G

  • GG - Good Game, used at the conclusion of a gaming match, often to demonstrate good sportsmanship and a great attitude.[17]
  • GL - Good Luck, used at the onset of a gaming match to demonstrate good sportsmanship.
  • GMTA - Great Minds Think Alike [18][19]
  • Godwin's Law - Dictates that the longer a thread, the more likely someone will post a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler[20][21]
  • GTFO - Get the fuck out, used by "veterans" on message boards to dismiss new users, commonly used on the forums of YTMND. [22]
  • GTG or G2G - Got To Go [5] and Good To Go[23]

H

  • HAND - Have A Nice Day [5]
  • Handle - Name used in online chat, (AKA nick(name), alias, screen/user name) [14]
  • Haxor or H4x0r (ASCII) - Hacker[24]
  • Hit - A request made to the web server, (noun) the results of an internet search, (verb) loading a Web page. Hits are not equivalent to visitors of a webpage. [14]
  • Home - The website's introduction page, starting point, and guide. The technical term is "index" [14]
  • Hot List - A collection of publicly available URLS (World Wide Web site addresses), sometimes available as text files. This term is not to be confused with Favorites [14]
  • HTH - Hope This/That Helps[5]

  • IM - Instant Messaging using a variety of networking software or cellphone hardware/software

  • Lag - Slang term for slow Internet speeds or high Internet latency; Lag is sometimes due to a server problem, but more frequently due to the connection between client and server. A slow or intermittent connection may often be referred to as laggy[5]
  • Lamer - A know-nothing, one who is lame[5]
  • Laterdays - Another way to say goodbye, cya, ect. Gives the feeling that you'll talk to them again.
  • Leet - Often spelled as l33t or l337 in ASCII form. It originally meant elite[5]
  • LMIRL - Let's Meet In Real Life[28]
  • LMAO - Laughing My Ass Off[5]
  • LMFAO - Laughing My Fucking Ass Off[5]
  • LOL - Laughing Out Loud, Laugh Out Loud [29][14]
  • Lurker - Someone who frequents a message board without participating in discussions[5]
  • L8r - Later

  • Newbie - An inexperienced user of a system or game. See also Newbie[5]
  • NIFOC - Naked In Front Of Computer[5]
  • NM - (Sometimes written N/M) No Message, used on message boards or in e-mails to indicate that everything is already said in the subject line[33]
  • NP - No Problem [34]
  • NSFW - Not Safe For Work. Warning about content that may get the viewer in trouble with his employer or co-workers[35][36]
  • NVM ,NVMD, or nm - Nevermind, not much [37]

  • O RLY - Oh really?[38]
  • OIC - Oh, I See [5]
  • OP - Operator [5]
  • OS - Operating System [5]
  • OTOH - On The Other Hand [5]

  • P2P - peer-to-peer, pay-to-play
  • PEBKAC/PEBCAK - Problem Exists Between Keyboard And Chair[5]
  • Ping - From the popular network monitoring tool named after table tennis, used as a greeting similar to "Are you there?". [39] [40]
  • PKing - Player Killing, when one in an online game kills other players
  • PITA - Pain In The Arse/Ass [5]
  • PLMK - Please Let Me Know [5]
  • PMSL - Pissing MySelf Laughing [41]
  • POS - Parent over shoulder (commonly used by children to notify others of a scrutinizing parent)[41][26]
  • PWN - Derived from the phrase 'own' or ownage, commonly spelled pwnage
